The Cavan Kayakrun promises a warm, local welcome in a fantastic location. There are two separate kayakrun challenges - the CKR challenge and the XL challenge. The CKR event starts at Gallonray House, Cootehill with a 5km run/walk, followed by a 1km kayak race, then a run a short distance to the Bike Transition area and finishing with a 15km cycle. The emphasis is on fun, so whether you are an experienced athlete looking for a serious challenge or a total beginner looking for a bit of 'craic' then you will not want to miss this event. The race is open to individuals or if you feel all three events may be too much then why not enter a relay team of three to share the load? The Cavan Kayakarun Challenge XL is for Elite athletes. It starts with the 5km run, followed by a 2km kayak, then a 5km Cross-country Fort Trail run back to the transition area at Gallonray House; concluding with a 54km cycle stage. This is a local community event, and with the generous help of local people, participants can be guarantees a well marshalled and safe passage. Family fun events include a bouncy castle, face painting, an after-event party and prize giving. Alongside that, there is a great social attraction with music in Gallonray House, on the Friday and also on the Saturday night after the event. The music is usually a mix of traditional and regular. There is a buffet meal for purchase after the event. Also complimentary teas/coffee and treats for all entrants. The Cavan Kayakarun Junior Challenge consists of male, female and relay teams with the following categories: ages 12-14, 14-16 and 16-18. It will begin with 600m kayak at Barnagrow Lake followed by 5km run back to Gallonray House and finally a 12.5km cycle. The Junior Event begins at 12 noon sharp before the main event and is in a different event sequence to the senior events. Registration on the day of the event only. An individual entry costs €10, and teams cost €20.
