The rath sits on a small sandy hill with a fine view southwards over the Camowen River valley. It consists of a roughly oval area central area surrounded by two substantial earthen banks and ditches. A rath was the enclosed farmstead of the prosperous farmers and aristocracy of the Early Christian Period. Most raths have only one enclosing bank and ditch, so the presence of two at this site indicates that it might have been originally owned by people of high status.
