The Shannon Estuary is home to Ireland’s only resident group of Bottlenose Dolphins. There are about 200 in the estuary, an EU Special Area of Conservation, and calves are born every year.
While seeing and learning about dolphins and their habitat is central to the experience, there are surprises too. You might meet a grey seal emerging from a cave, or spot a herd of wild goats on a hillside. Meanwhile you’ll enjoy stunning views of Loop Head and the Kerry coast.
Dolphinwatch, a family business established in 1992, was named one of the Top Ten Wildlife Attractions in Ireland by BBC Wildlife Magazine and last year was awarded Gold Certification by Ecotourism Ireland – the only boat trip to have this accreditation.
