Dublin locals tell us their perfect day in their home city

We asked three trendy, in-the-know characters living in Dublin what their perfect day in the city would look like.

The Chef

Chef Giuseppe Crupi runs the Italian School of Cooking in Dublin, so is perfectly placed for giving us a tasty tour of the city.

“For the perfect day, I start with the food markets for a morning of tasting and walking. I’m spoiled for choice, with organic markets in Temple Bar, in Cornmarket and in Howth. If I hop on the Dart out to Howth, I can squeeze in a walk by the sea, feed the sea lions and get a delicious lunch: oysters with a pint in Ivan’s Oyster Bar.

“Then I’d head back into town for a quick visit to the bog people at the National Museum of Archaeology. They’re perfectly preserved – like polished leather – after thousands of years in the bog. My favourite is the warrior with his leather armband – pure surfer style.

“Around the corner in the National Gallery, I’d slip into the Jack Yeats room. To me the Impressionist works are quintessentially Irish, and every time I stare at his paintings I see new details and new stories.

“I’d have a little siesta in the Iveagh Gardens by the nicest waterfall in town – it’s so quiet and peaceful there, I think very few visitors know about it.

“Then up it’s up to Pinocchio in Ranelagh for the best tuna steak ever. In the evening, a herbal tea in the Tea Gardens along the quays makes me feel very oriental. Then the day is perfectly perfect.”
