Rosses Bay (Heritage Trail)
- View as map
Located on the southern side of the bridge at Waterside is an inlet of the Foyle called Rosses Bay or 'Port Rois.' The bay is now almost separated from the river by the railway embankment and was the site of a ship battle in 1200 A.D between the McDermott and O'Donnell Clans. The townland around the bay is called 'Caw,' which means a 'battle site.'
