Sharon Shannon is a trad music veteran who has been playing venues up and down the country since the early 1990s, when her debut self-titled album became the best-selling Irish traditional music album ever released.
A virtuoso on the accordion, Shannon has collaborated with musicians like Steve Earle, Nigel Kennedy and Sinéad O’Connor, and she has always allowed a variety of folk styles, such as Argentinian tango or Breton music, to influence her own sound. Her most recent album, Sacred Earth, has seen her introduce new African elements into the mix.
For this Christmastime Whelan’s gig, Sharon Shannon will bring a bit of every flavour of folk to the table.
