Wallow in the sad romance of a Roman epic at the Gate Theatre as Shakespeare's classic poem plays out on the stage, performed by Camille O'Sullivan and Feargal Murray through song.

The Rape of Lucrece is a narrative epic poem about Lucretia, a legend in ancient Rome, written in iambic pentameter.

Lucrece is a beautiful and innocent woman whose husband, Collatine, is a solider in the Roman army. He returns home and gets a visit from his comrade, Tarquin.

Tarquin becomes obsessed by Lucrece and assaults her, setting off a chain of events that are nothing short of tragic.

This moment in the history of Rome, also recorded in Ovid’s Fasti, is spectacularly heartbreaking. Wallow in the sad romance at the Gate Theatre as this epic plays out on the stage, performed by Camille O'Sullivan and Feargal Murray through song.
