The Royal Irish Academy of Music and the Lir National Academy of Dramatic Art have teamed up for Opera Briefs, a special collaboration which sees new voices in Irish opera take to the Abbey’s Peacock Stage each year.

On the bill are two short performances of two different types of operas, Montiverdi’s Il Ballo delle Ingrate, and Judith Weir’s Scipio’s Dream. Both operas are very different. One is from the 17th century and the other brand new. One is a tragedy and the other a comedy. One is by and man and one is by a woman. However both explore the same theme – the control of women’s behaviour – in different and interesting ways.

You will see the next generation of Irish operatic talent in this special presentation from director Caitríona McLaughlin in the 2018 edition of Opera Briefs.
