Actors, Performing Bodies and the Matter of Storage will consider different the ways in which artworks can transform our ideas of how the self is presented and understood in digital realms.

As part of the group exhibition, digital_self, hosted at the museum’s Project Spaces, IMMA is staging a series of lectures and presentations. These talks will examine and explore the themes of the exhibition as a whole, principally the influence of ever-present digital technologies and the internet on our lives.

This lecture, by Dr. Maeve Connolly, will consider different the ways in which artworks can transform our ideas of how the self is presented and understood in digital realms. In particular, Connolly’s lecture will focus on the ways that the human body might be understood as a medium of storage.

Connolly is one of the directors of IADT’s Art and Research Collaboration MA program, and is one of the country’s leading voices on the subject of how art and media function in the contemporary world.
