Kilkeaveragh, Portmagee, Kerry, Republic of Ireland
Built in 1885, Mackens farmhouse is a renovated two storey slate roofed house, where many of the house's original features remain. The farmhouse stands on a working farm, overlooking the sea, just 3.2km from Portmagee Village in County Kerry.
Standing on the shore of the beautiful Portmagee Channel, just off the Ring of Kerry are the Portmagee Seaside Cottages. These self catering cottages are run by the Lynch Family who offer visitors a warm welcome, and top quality accommodation, in one of Ireland's most stunning locations.
The original Mackens farmhouse was built in 1885 as a single storey thatch cottage, with outbuildings for the farm animals. The Foleys lived in the house until the last of this family Michael (affectionately called Macken) Foley died in 1980. Now lovingly renovated, to a two storey slate roofed house, many of the original features of the house remain: the timber beams still exposed, the original stone fireplace as well as the hearth timber over the fireplace, which was a ship's timber salvaged from the sea. The property boasts two twin bedrooms, one double room, a kitchen/dining room, utility room, two bathrooms with showers, and two WC’s with wash hand basins.
The farmhouse stands on a working farm, just two miles from Portmagee Village. Guests can enjoy an array of activities from boat trips to the breath taking Skellig Islands to fishing, golf, walking and water sports. Or for a more relaxing holiday, just sit on the cottage patio and view the local fauna, watch the boats go by, listen to the fish jumping at night or watch the sun setting behind Valentia Island. These cottages offer something special in self catering accommodation with the best of Irish hospitality.
