Built in 1857, the Ballinakilla Old School building has been beautifully renovated and is now the Bere Island Heritage Centre. It hosts a permanent exhibition on the unique history and lifestyle of Bere Island as well as temporary themed exhibitions.
The Bere Island Heritage Centre is housed in the Ballinakilla Old School building on Bere Island in West Cork. The building was built in 1857 and has now been beautifully renovated.

The Centre has genealogy information, the St Michael’s graveyard database and information on the island’s heritage sites and walks. In the meeting rooms of the Bere Island Heritage Centre are run traditional skills workshops, meditation retreats, school tours and craft fairs. The centre also has internet access, printing and office services, a craft shop and sells refreshments; and as such has become the focal point of Bere Island.
