A beautifully renovated traditional Irish thatched pub, The Thatch at Grannagh Castle in south County Kilkenny, has become synonymous with great Irish music and simple tasty dishes, prepared with local ingredients from Kilkenny Food Trail suppliers. So whether you would like a quiet pint by a real turf fire or a great steak for lunch or dinner, The Thatch Pub is the place to be. Wednesday night is a great music night with an open session of traditional, folk and ballad music. There is also live music at the weekends.
The Ryan family took over the pub in 2002, and after some renovations opened to provide their customers with great Irish food, great Irish music, and great Irish pints. Tom and Eily Butler The Thatch's previous owners were known far and wide for the hospitality they provided to their customers. In its day the pub had the largest sales of "large bottles" ( pint bottles of Guinness, Smithwicks etc) in the South East of Ireland. In the Butlers day the pub did not serve draft beer, because of promise that Tom made to one of his suppliers.
