Retrospective Part II, Selected Work. “My work alludes, amongst other things, to fracturing and fragmentation of life in our time” – he stated at the end of the study for the Master of Fine Art Degree at the University of Ulster in 1988.1 Over the years Livingstone has worked in paint, plaster, metal, print and film in two dimensions and three dimensions. Different mediums symbolise different meanings, the art containing visual meaning to life experienced. The works in this exhibition cover five decades from the 1970s. Livingstone was born in Derry but exhibited in Brazil, Canada, France, India, Ireland, Poland, Taiwan, UK, USA and his work is found in the collections of both the Arts Council of England and the Northern Ireland as well as galleries and museums in Brazil, Canada, Holland, Ireland, Poland, UK and USA. 1 Slavka Sverakova, Richard Livingstone, Retrospective Part One, Miniatures, September 2011 an illustrated catalogue will accompany the exhibition.
