The Walled City Tattoo will combine the pomp, ceremony and grandeur of traditional Tattoo events with a special Derry~Londonderry twist and will see music, song, theatre and dance come together in an evening inspired by the rich heritage of the city. It will allow a Northern Ireland audience to enjoy world class performance on home ground.
The event will combine a blend of home and international talent, featuring a 500-strong cast of performers from Denmark, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, the Republic of Ireland, Switzerland, Tanzania, Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK.
It will be the only event of this kind on the island of Ireland to feature top international acts that feature regularly at the Edinburgh Tattoo. The headline acts will be Top Secret Drumming Corps from Switzerland, and Crossed Swords Pipe Band from Germany.
- Top Secret Drum Corps, international guests from Switzerland, are a precision drum corps with an energetic and unpredictable style. They have drummed their way into the hearts of Tattoo spectators throughout the world.
- The Crossed Swords Pipe Band,formed in 2007 on the initiative of Major General Melvin and his personal piper David Moir. The band is based at JHQ Rheindahlen. The Band calling is that of European Unity and has members from Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales and Luxembourg.
Other acts will include Afrikan Warriors, Sontas, various massed brass and melody flute bands and Highland and Irish Dancers. The ever-popular age old tradition of the Massed Pipes and Drums will also be performed comprising a spectacle of over 100 pipers and drummers from counties Tyrone, Donegal, Fermanagh, Londonderry, as well as Pipe Bands from Newcastle upon Tyne and Germany.
