Join Chamber Choir Ireland for a special afternoon concert that brings Gertrude Stein’s legendary way with words to life.
If there’s one thing Gertrude Stein is known for, it’s her way with words. Conducted by Paul Hillier, this special concert by Chamber Choir Ireland celebrates Stein’s legendary command of language through music.
Taking place in Dublin City Gallery: The Hugh Lane as part of the Sundays at Noon concert series, Pigeons on the Grass Alas opens and closes with the choir performing extracts from Virgil Thomson and Gertrude Stein's opera Four Saints In Three Acts. Stein aficionados will of course know that this opera includes the line that gives the concert its title.
Gertrude Stein was heavily influenced by the music of Erik Satie so expect music by composers who also drew on Satie as inspiration at this eagerly anticipated performance.
This musical celebration is the perfect opportunity for you to appreciate the work of Gertrude Stein, and even if it will be the first time you dip your toes into this American great's catalogue, Pigeons on the Grass Alas is all the Sunday afternoon inspiration you'll need.
