Lough Boora, Ferbane, Offaly, Republic of Ireland
The romantic wilderness of Lough Boora Discovery Park, Co Offaly, now hosts a series of intriguing sculptures by Irish artists. These large-scale pieces are striking and designed to change with the Irish seasons—a visit will stimulate your senses.
Lough Boora Discovery Park is a beautiful part of Ireland that has been injected with an artistic legacy all of its own. Some of the most innovative land and environmental sculptures in Ireland are now featured here, deep in the wilds of County Offaly.
The artists, inspired by the rich natural and industrial legacy of the bog lands, have created a series of large-scale sculptures that are now part of Sculpture in the Parklands’ permanent collection. A mecca for outdoor enthusiasts interested in its unique flora and fauna, Lough Boora is now enhanced by works of art that change with the weather, the seasons and the years.
Incorporated in the sculptures are the industrial materials of the bog, like locomotives, rail line, timber and stone. Over time, some of the sculptures will alter in colour and develop interesting colonies of plant growth, becoming part of the landscape once again.
Visit Lough Boora Discovery Park to see works like “Sky and Earth”, “The Boora Pyramid”, “The Gathering of Stones” and “Bog Track” and appreciate the creativity of the Sculpture in the Parklands project—where art meets nature.
Sculpture in the Parklands is open to the public as a source of inspiration, study, recreation and education. It will continue to invite Irish and international artist to create significant site-specific works of art while they live in the local community as artists in residence.
