Ireland’s September issue

Emporio Armani is known for using exotic locations for its advertising shoots: Dublin is no exception

We’re not used to seeing stunning models pouting on our beaches. But that’s exactly what happened when renowned fashion label Emporio Armani decided that Dollymount Strand in Dublin was the perfect location to shoot its A/W 2014 advertising campaign video.

With the Poolbeg chimneys as a towering background, some of the world’s top models strutted their stuff along the windswept beach – and kudos for not sinking those heels into the sand.

Taking the stunning snaps to complement the video was Wicklow-born photographer Boo George, on his first photo shoot with Armani. The label called the beach ‘striking’, and the perfect accompaniment to the ‘subtle colours and textures’ of Emporio Armani’s autumn and winter collection.

Job done, we say.

Scene-stealers

The Armani team isn’t the first to stage a stylish shoot in Ireland and they certainly won’t be the last. We found more photographers and stylists who managed to capture Ireland (and fashion) at its finest.

Vogue US and Annie Leibovitz in County Kerry

Vogue September issue

The lush Kerry backdrop steals the show in Vogue’s revered September issue. Model Daria Werbowy and actor Adam Driver were following in WB Yeats and Maud Gonne’s footsteps in the dreamy shoot; imagined up by creative director Grace Coddington and photographed by the legendary Annie Leibovitz.

Braving the heights at the Cliffs of Moher

No models suffered vertigo during this shoot! Italian photographer Stefano Ferroni took these images for Jam Studio at the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare. The cliffs have always been one of Ireland’s most photographed sites, but Ferroni’s choice of black and white gives the cliffs a magnificently moody feel. Looking at the brave model perched on the cliff’s edge reminds us just how high the cliffs are – 650ft to be exact.

Kerry Fashion Week 2013

These shots for Kerry’s fashion week could have easily joined Leibovitz’s ones as they use the same stormy scenery. They were taken in Killarney, a particularly photogenic region in the county with its deep lakes, enormous mountains and endless lush greenery. Barry Murphy Photography shot the images and the designs featured are by up-and-coming local designers who showcase their work during the annual fashion week.

Powerscourt House and Gardens

What bride wouldn’t want to have her wedding in this romantic Palladian mansion in County Wicklow? You can just imagine this young couple having their first dance in the 13th century ballroom. This shoot was styled by Pearl and Godiva and Christina Brosnan was the photographer in question.

In the wild West

Last but not least is this amazing shot on Carraig na Finise on Inis Óirr (Inisheer), the smallest of the Aran Islands. Behind the model is the wreck of the cargo vessel “Plassey” which was shipwrecked in the 1960s.

Who knows? Vogue and Armani might both want to come back to our shores for another taste of Ireland's dramatic locations!
