Weekend Whale Watching course with the Irish Whale & Dolphin Group, focusing on whale watching field-skills, species identification and cetacean ecology/biology, with lectures, land & boat based watches. These courses offer a weekend with a difference, combining an enjoyable learning experience on Ireland's most stunning offshore island, with an opportunity to observe some of the 24 species of whales, dolphins and basking sharks that can be seen along the Irish south coast. Suitable from ages of 16 upwards, they cater for all levels of interest, from the complete novice to the wildlife enthusiast keen to learn more about marine wildlife & conservation. Participants will attend a series of illustrated presentations and guided watches, during which you will learn the field-skills needed to observe, identify and record these magnificent marine species. Courses also include a whale watch boat trip (weather permitting), during which you will survey the productive waters towards the Fastnet Rock and beyond, at Ireland's southernmost point. Participants should dress appropriately for the weather (boots and water proofs advised) and bring optics. The hikes to the cliff vantage points require reasonable health to be enjoyed, but may not be suitable if injured, elderly, or recovering from recent illness. Please note there are no guarantees of sightings.
