Ireland's premier game and country fair, marketed internationally as part of the Great Game Fairs of Ireland brand. The event focuses on providing quality family entertainment to all those who live, work and play in, or would like to visit, the Irish countryside. It is one of the largest, most participative and wide ranging celebrations of the Irish countryside, its sports and its rural crafts and traditions. It features international country sports competitions, living history encampments and re-enactments, an action packed main arena programme and a huge tented village of trade stands to 'buy into' the country lifestyle. It also features rural art and crafts, a fine food festival including game and fish cookery demonstrations by celebrity chefs, traditional music, theatre, an eco village and animals from dancing horses to swooping birds of prey. There are also plenty of opportunities for participation by the whole family. The whole event takes place in the magnificent grounds of Birr Castle Estate and visitors to the fair can enjoy all the attractions of the estate including the science museum, the great telescope and the world famous gardens. This year the fair will take place within a countryside festival in Birr Town and surrounding area, including a special opening activity day featuring a range of sporting an cultural activities, seminars and competitions for visitors on the 30th August.
