The Garden and Orchard Cottages are situated in the walled garden of the wooded, parkland state of Clonalis House. The self-catering cottages enable visitors to enjoy a home from home experience near Castlerea, County Roscommon.
The Orchard Cottage and The Garden Cottage are situated in the walled gardens of Clonalis House, an imposing building that dates from 1878. The estate, which is the ancestral home of the O’Conors, stretches out for more than 280 hectares of woodland and parkland, and has been described as the last remnant of the ancient Kingdom of Connacht.
The Orchard Cottage and Garden Cottage are comfortable, original cut stone residences that are equipped to the highest standards. Each has three ensuite bedrooms, with one double and two twins. Downstairs has an open-plan kitchen/dining area with open fireplace and a sunny sitting room with wonderful views into the orchard. The cottages are very suitable for group bookings, including family gatherings. Groups can make use of The Old Forge, a large, self-contained room where they can dine and socialise together. It has seating for 25 and includes a large welcoming fireplace and sloping timber ceiling.
The garden has been replanted with native Irish apple trees and there is a large play area for children. There is also a hard tennis court, barbecue area and games room available for guests' use. The services of a caterer are available, if required.
Clonalis House is an ideal base for exploring County Roscommon’s historical sites and attractions, which include Roscommon Castle, Strokestown Park House and Lough Key Forest Park. Golf enthusiasts can also enjoy a nine-hole golf course in Castlerea and other fine clubs in the vicinity.
