This unique property, also known as “Sandylands”, is located on the Irish Sea shore on the Ards peninsula and has the distinction of being the most easterly house in Ireland. As the name suggests it was originally a boathouse and Coastguard Station operated by the Admiralty. It is now a charming detached two storey dwelling with ample gardens bordered by stone walls and wonderful uninterrupted views of passing shipping and of Burr Isle, the Mull of Galloway and the Isle of Man. The accommodation provides on the ground floor, a large spacious sitting room, kitchen with dining area, cloakroom/toilet and utility room. On the first floor are three double bedrooms and a bathroom with shower cubicle. The premises are practical and yet full of character and enjoy oil fired heating. There is an open fire in the sitting room. Accessed by a resident's private laneway from the Portavogie Road, the Old Boathouse is approximately 1.5 miles south of the village of Ballyhalbert in a spectacular setting with only the sound of the waves, seagulls and the occasional horn of the South Rock Lighthouse to interrupt the tranquility. Convenient to Strangford Lough famous for its birdlife and sailing, historic Greyabbey, the delightful beaches of Ballywalter and Cloughey, the National Trust properties at Mountstewart and Castleward, the Mournes, the numerous attractions of Bangor and Newtownards and the spectacular “narrows” between Portaferry and Strangford. Kirkistown, the nearest golf course is a mere 5 minutes drive away.
