The story of Christie's life is a colourful one. He left school at 11 to work as a messenger boy in Tralee, then emigrated to England at 15 to work on building sites. His hunger for music was sated in London, and when he performed his songs in folk clubs he was immediately booked for gigs.

Now Christie Hennessy is to be immortalised in a bronze statue to be erected in the town square of his home town, Tralee. Not many such gifted artists can say they have shaken the hand of three Irish presidents and sung for their last time on stage before His Holiness The 14th Dali Lama!
