There are also a number of free Irish property for sale by owner websites. When selling my house I tried them all including fee paying and interestingly so far I have received the most enquiries from a free to list property site called
www.house-for-sale-ireland.com

Here’s hoping the enquiries turn into a sale and I save all those agents fees !!

The private sales market now makes up an estimated 15% of the American property market, which speaks for itself. A number of websites now exist in the Irish market, including those listed above and buymyproperty.ie. These new services will hopefully bring transparency to this market. Sellers should be encouraged to give bidding histories to their purchasers to ensure confidence in the process and to encourage more people to sell their own houses. Who has more of an interest in selling my house for maximum value than me?

Very good article by Conor Pope, although he failed to mention Sellityourself.ie!

I rememember reading a couple of posts on the Freakonomics blog about value of estate agents or ‘realtors’ as they choose to call them. Think they cited a study which showed that there was little difference in price achieved between using an agent and selling yourself, only advantage using an agent was houses sold marginally quicker.
Naturally IAVI are going to extol their own virtues but while I would be inclined to give a surgeon a percentage of my house if he can ensure I wake up fully functional, I’d be happy to take my chances without a glorified salesman
