  • The great Armistice

    May 13, 2008 @ 10:02 am | by Shane

Jeremy Vine’s finest few minutes reminded us that most television news seems to have viewed the likes of The Day Today as an encouragement to act like gibbering news monkeys, rather than as a deterrent. This gives us the excuse to look back at the BBC’s brilliant late-90s satirical series Saturday Night Armistice (later Friday Night Armistice), presented and written by Armando Iannucci, with Peter Baynham and David Schneider.

Anyone remeber the News Bunny? It was on some sattellite channel in the 90’s. The Bunny used to give the thumbs up or down to news stories just in case you didn’t know if they were positive or negative. The Bunny was actually a woman inside a suit of course who I once had the pleasure of asking about her experiences as News Bunny. She had a one word response. “Sweaty”.

Obsessed, New Bunny was on L!ve TV, and was, like the genius that was Topless Darts, the creation of Kelvin MacKenzie. Or so Kelvin claimed.

It also featured, showing it could send up the zeitgeist, featured the weather read in Norwegian.

According to Wikipedia , the men behind the mask (in order of appearance) in the News Bunny Role of Honour are: Ashley Hames, Ashley Revell, Scott Harman, Luke Robbins, Darren Lamb, Andy Clarke, and Nik Hodges.
