News being free? To me that isn't compatible with the press staving off commercial influence.

The free news model is Herald AM and Metro, ie garbage dictated by advertisers throwing stuff at as many people as they can.

If news is free you might as well gear it towards as many people as possible to appease advertisers as tailor it to a more discerning, select audience.

There's a lot of pressure on journalists to start blogging and podcasting. With the web getting stuff out as fast as possible has become more important than getting good stuff out. The news cycle is becoming a circus as editors strive to remain "relevant".

Should the IT continue to keep the print headlines on the front page of the website all day or should it updated?

I would have thought there is huge scope for IT web expansion. Surely the days of you boys being sectioned off in your own area are coming to an end?
