I'm back.

Not crying.

The Chancer will rise again. Perhaps out of a splitting rock, bare-chested with a jewel-encrusted sword or something.

You mean the awkward question I went on to answer? And wanted to answer it to you directly as well as via this site, only to have it bounce back? I don't mind being questioned, corrected or criticised here - I wouldn't have the blog otherwise.

But those who are doing it don't need to hide behind false addresses.

Fiona - I’m hoping that because your IP address is in the US and your e-mail address doesn’t work that you’re undercover enough to tell me something else

Hah, hah, hah. Excellent work Detective Hegarty. Reverse IP addresss - you're the new Damien Mulley. Do you do that with everyone who posts on the site? Or just people who ask awkward questions?

Fiona - I'm hoping that because your IP address is in the US and your e-mail address doesn't work that you're undercover enough to tell me something else.

Everyone else: I’ve been asked, rightly, if I may have read too much into the Gone Fishing sign and message on the site. And, I must admit to wondering that myself today. When I saw it last night, it looked pretty clear to me. This is a site with an obvious business plan and it’s run off with a vague message saying it’ll see us when it it’ll see us. That would be a strange business plan. It looks final to me. My source? The message on the site.

Anyway, I’ve been unable to confirm this today so I’m saying that if you know something contrary, let me know.

If I am wrong The Chancer may return with a post headlined: Shane Hegarty RIP.

Gone fishin' or sleeping with the fishes. We'll see. It's probably my fault anyway, I didn't go to see In Bruges.

Green Ink - Listen, if it turns out that The Chancer really has gone fishing and I've delivered a premature obituary (I have not received a response to a couple of calls today) then they can return with the headline "Present Tense RIP", or something like it. Thanks for the reminder about Time To Go. I'll have to fish them out.

David - I am an easily amused cretin.
