Vote for what’s-his-name!

Filed under: US, Politics, YouTube — Shane @ 11:06 am

This video from Ron Paul Supporters in Ireland popped up on YouTube this week. If you don’t know who Ron Paul is, this attempts to point out why. It complains that the US presidential candidate has got little coverage here; that you would assume there were only two candidates in the race.

It has a point, although this video isn’t interested in examining the context. This isn’t the Irish election, in which the media follows rules about bias. Instead, the Irish media concentrates on the stories that interest them and - they presume - the public. Still, even in its blunt way, it raises an interesting issue.

3 pieces on Dennis Kucinich (who would have been my pick but I’m a pinko commie liberal/left of centre European) and he came in second in one state.

2 results for Duncan Hunter, one of which isn’t actually related to Duncan Hunter.

11 for Bill Richardson, many of which relate to his time as energy secretary.

So basically the fringe candidates who don’t have a prayer aren’t getting covered by RTE because they’re non-entities and there’s more relevant stuff happening here that could get covered.

Paul is a lunatic who is drawing support from some really undesirable types as well as from the libertarians, God knows who is supporting him in Ireland because his non-interventionist policies would mean he’d probably ignore us.

My understanding is that so concerned with the Irish vote is Ron Paul that he is attending the gathering in the Lime bar in DL next week to watch the super Tuesday results.

Ron Paul is quite interesting in contrast to the other Republican candidates. His supporters are another story, though I was impressed with them chasing Sean Hannity of Fox News shouting “Fox Sucks!”
