Could have sworn I commented here to tell you about a White Denim session over on http://www.daytrotter.com/ this week.
Would this have been taken down for some reason Jim?
Cheers

"caught White Denim on TV the other night and wasn’t too sure what to make of them."

As it turns out I was actually watching Black Kids. I think I must be colour blind.

kDamo - that's my core audience: old folks who don't go out on Saturdays. And yes, the Gemma Hayes album is very interesting

Liz - that's my core audience: old folks who don't go out on Saturdays and who can't stay awake.

peter - I have a feeling the White Denim fan-club is going to grow and grow. I saw them live before I heard them on record and I just couldn't get over how they pulled it all off. Songs slip and slide all over the place yet never lose their pace or place. And all three musicians can PLAY. On record, it just sounds loud and fun and riotous and messy and AWESOME!

Someone texted in as I played it, simply going "YAHOO" and that just summed it up for me. Music to make you go YAHOO on a saturday night

Commercial popularity is so fickle, who could possibly predict it?

I downloaded a big pile of music from a blog called aquarium-drunkard last year. Mostly American music, newish artists matched with older obscure acts. Its a great site, highly recommendable. Anyway, of all the stuff I listened to, White Denim was one of the bands that made me sit up and pay attention. They had such an immediate punch to their songs (ShakeShakeShake, Dark Sided Computer Mouth) as well as slow burners like Lets Talk About It. That guitar riff just gets into your head and stays there all day. The recordings are wild, kick-arse, frenetic hatchet jobs. I'd love to see them live because I'd love to see how they pull a song like Dark Sided... (which doesn't seem to have a proper beginning, middle or end) off. It gets me jumping about the room like no other song from last year. I think their brilliant and it put a big smile on my face when I heard them on the radio for the first time.

“Actually listened to your show for the first time this week because my old age started to catch up with me and I stayed in”

My old age has caught up with me so much I can't stay awake for it. And if I do I can't remember what I've been listening to.

I’m probably not your target audience.

Some really good stuff, and the new Gemma Hayes track sounded very itneresting.

Kangaroo - It depends on your definition of "tipping" and "breakthrough". I traditionally tip acts in January - http://www.irishtimes.com/theticket/articles/2007/1228/1198509868452.html - but I think White Denim will appeal to lots and lots of people. Certainly, they were the best band I saw at SXSW last month by a country mile. Whether they'll be a "breakthrough act" depends on your definition
