I don’t like Arthur & Yu. Not really my cup of tea - folk/pop…
But there is a gem of a band on the label called Le Loup. They’re more up my street.

…although i’d be a bit worried that i wouldn’t manage a whole album of arthur & yu… just a tad too indie-pop / twee for my ears… the song is great though taken on its own…

It was set-up by Jonathan Poneman, founder of Sub Pop Records. I think some clever little acts will emerge on it.

To be honest, a lot of these music compilations have been disappointing over the years. Rough Trade Shops used to be great, but I can only find the odd four or five tracks (out of forty) on them nowadays which I really like.
And what the hell happened to Kitsuné?! The last 2 compilations have been pitiful.

not a bad compilation that one… i was impressed with the dan deacon track (i’ve somehow never managed to hear him before) but my favourite songs i discovered from it were from effi briest, magik markers and arthur & yu

Martin - the compilation is “Rough Trade Shops - Counter Culture 07″ (Counter Culture Records CC07). It’s an amazing compilation - four star review here http://www.irishtimes.com/theticket/articles/2006/0127/1137626805983.html - and I have been playing loads from it over the last few weeks, including Woods, Vampire Weekend, Wooden Shjips, Mika Miko, No Age etc

One of the tracks you played (can’t remember which one)- you mentioned it was from a compilation with artists such as Dan Le Sac (best gigs i’ve been to in the last few years) and Miracle Fortress… could you tell me what the name of that compilation is? thanks martin

Yes, but I get the feeling people could still be having it out about the top 40 list for a while yet, like those Japanese soldiers who kept fighting WWII on some random pacific island until 1972, it will go on for some!
