It would be easy to be cynical on this, but I’m saying congrats! Make Art!

Congrats. As I pointed out weeks ago on this very blog they had a great chance despite the longish odds offered by the bookies. Why I waited until last night, when the odds had been slashed to put my money where my mouth is I dont know. Oh well.

    Congrats lads, feck the begrudgers!

Brock - thanks for that, i’ve included it above.

And, as I just pointed out to someone on an email, “Falling Slowly” is now up there with “Moon River”, “Fame”, “Say You, Say Me”, “Take My Breath Away” and, of course, “It’s Hard Out Here For A Pimp”

As said above, fair play to John Stewart. That orchestra is ruthless!

I think it’s great that we’ve finally produced something that can stand shoulder to shoulder with Berlin.

Wow, Isaac Hayes won an Oscar for Shaft! I didn’t know that.

Congratulations to Glen and Marketa. I’m happy for the pair of them.

I bet Waltons wished they hadn’t remodeled now. It could have been a nice little stop on the Once tourist trail.

While I’m not a fan of the Frames, it’s a pretty damn impressive accolade. He’ll now have to change his busines card to say ‘Academy Award Winner (insert TM sign) Glen Hansard’.

It’s a sign of how well known he has become that irish journalists now tend to drop the explanation ‘lead singer with the Frames’ when printing his name.

enda - “back-handed compliment”???? Not in the least - I’m delighted they won. Just pointing out some other songs which won over the years. Go to that link and you’ll find many more.

Fantastic! So proud to be Irish today! Great to win something! (Im from Mayo, dont even know what its like to win an All Ireland! Just delighted to see one of fav bands recognised on the world stage)

Great to see a nice song win, there hasnt been any notables in recent history. Though really this is about acknowledging a small movie about music. Well done John Carney for taking risks and having vision.

15:”Well done John Carney for taking risks and having vision.”

:D He had a vision alright. It was about 2hours long and it starred Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson.

Marketa’s speech was the best of the night, i thought. I think it will have resonated with a lot of artists around the world. Hats off to Jon Stewart for making sure she had the chance to speak.

I like Jon Stewart as much as the next right-thinking person but I sincerely doubt it was his personal call to bring Marketa back out for her moment of glory…something tells me the producer may have decided that one for him… Anyway, Glen’s distorted “TANX!!” into the mic was one of favourite and least favourite moments of the evening… Fair play to them though, it felt a bit like when Ray scored against the Italians in 94. Also, what was the craic with Laura Linney? Looks like she’d been a bit heavy handed with the Rescue Remedy.

According to Glen on morning Ireland yesterday it was Jon Stewart insisted to the producers that she be allowed back on.

That’s Jon’s story and he’s stickin to it ;). Ah no, I stand corrected, just would’ve presumed the producer would’ve decided it on his own steam. Fair play all round, though.
