  • Amy out, Kings KO’d

    November 30, 2007 @ 10:05 am | by Jim Carroll

Anyone surprised that Amy Winehouse has pulled her Dublin show tomorrow night?

Winehouse yanked her entire tour, with promoters citing “the rigours involved in touring and the intense emotional strain that Amy has been under in recent weeks”.

She was due to play Dublin’s RDS, a venue where a Kings Of Leon show ended early on Tuesday due to what promoters MCD termed a minor health sand safety issue.

One concert-goer commented to the On The Record blog that he saw “what looked like ’snow’ falling from the suspended lights in front of the stage”.

Kings Of Leon are the first act confirmed for next year’s Oxegen festival.

They must be having a hard time keeping Amy away…

MCD are a joke. Can’t even hire a venue. I wondered what that stuff falling was. Tried to take a pic but just became over exposed.

twenty - i love that the fact that amy pulled her tour after three dates due to “the rigours of touring”. 3 dates?

daniel - given the unloved and unlovely state of a lot of dublin venues - especially the RDS - I think some of the fault has to lie there.

    Unlovely state of venues??

Some day, Jim you should write about the impeccable decor of Mc Gonagles or the SFX. Especially the wide range of alcoholic drink that Mc Gonagles served and those velvet curtains. Still it was only about £5-10 to see the (then)current NME darlings like Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine, Silverfish or Birdland.

Cue that Monty Python “when I was a lad” sketch.

concierge - please, the flashbacks would drive me demented. i always thought the decor of McGonagles was inspired by a trip to Evil Santa’s grotto. Great venue, though. I interviewed Thurston Moore last week and he remembered the Sonic Youth gig there in 1990 fondly.

Daniel-How are MCD responsible for the RDS being a shithole?
    Rephrase RDS is a joke.
