that studio album is very good
Comment by Ronan | November 27, 2007 at 1:38 amvery surprised by how much i like it, Ronan. I picked it up during the week because i recognised the name but wasn’t expecting it to be THAT good.
I also got that Network 5 CD retrospective box - very interesting to hear how time has not been very kind to some classics.
Comment by Jim Carroll | November 27, 2007 at 9:23 amWhere else would you find Seasick Steve amd a Guy Called Gerald on the same programme??
Voodoo Ray still sounds great nearly twenty years on.
Comment by Overfriendly Concierge | November 27, 2007 at 10:55 am20 years? Jesus wept.
Comment by Twenty Major | November 27, 2007 at 11:08 amYep, 20 years, first released in 1988. Wonder did Peter Cook and Dudley Moore ever get any cash from the sample A Guy Called Gerald used? Or was this just an urban myth?
Comment by Jim Carroll | November 27, 2007 at 11:13 amGreat to hear you playing Adrian Crowley’s album. Bless Our Tiny Hearts is a heart-stopper, I love it.
And my favourite Palace tune ever, New Partner. And David Axelrod.
Jim, with these tunes you are really spoiling us. We just need a big gold pyramid of Ferroro Rocher now…
Comment by Sinead | November 27, 2007 at 12:14 pmsinead - thanks! That Adrian Crowley album has taken up residence in my world over the last few days - truly awesome songs.
Comment by Jim Carroll | November 27, 2007 at 12:27 pmI always play ‘Holy Thursday’ when I DJ! Awesome song, and all thanks to the bloody NME who included it on their last great free CD: “Bollocks to Ibiza”. Unfortunate title, but a great little compilation.
Comment by Hot Lunch | November 27, 2007 at 5:30 pmLuncher - to be fair, I think it was DJ Shadow and Mo Wax (and indeed Limerickman Brian “B+” Cross) who brought Axelrod out of the shadows a fair few years ago. His William Blake albums are sublime.

me too, though a few people I really trust had been bigging it up.
it’s my token rock record of the year I think. the 15 min long track is incredible.
Comment by Ronan | November 27, 2007 at 9:43 pmVery true Jim, but that CD was the first place I belatedly heard an Axe track in full. Have been stockpiling his work since. Gorgeous!
