  • This thing about Blogorrah

    July 26, 2007 @ 8:42 am | by Jim Carroll

What amazes me about the ongoing interest in the whereabouts of Blogorrah is the failure by anyone to actively try to replace it. Yes, Blogorrah is fantastic, but it’s far from unique. I mean, they shamelessly ripped their stylebook from Gawker. Maybe Blogorrah’s absence is caused by problems in getting the new Gawker fonts?

But the fascination does provoke a couple of questions. Like…

Are Irish bloggers really so hard up for chuckle material that they need John, Derek and assorted folk to come up with the funnies every day?

Do Irish bloggers ever think they could actually do something similar or - this one is kind of radical, I know - better by themselves? Would they even think of having a go? There are some very talented bloggers out there who could easily do the same job, but who lack the ambition and drive (and probably balls) to have a go.

Are Irish bloggers so hard up for things to write about that they need the Blogorrahistas to do the spade-work for them? I mean, I thought that was just a charge leveled at the mainsteam media?

What the hell did Irish bloggers write about before Blogorrah?

Does this prove that there is a blogging version of the silly season?

    Just asking, like.

I miss Blogorrah, but not as much as I miss the good old days of Danger Here (now non-updated since Feb 23).

While we’re at it - where the hell is Correspondent?

All this guff about politicians giving up blogging after the election and it’s the good bloggers who drop like flies.

    Shocking.

I was thinking the same thing Jim. I think people are just basically waiting for Blogorrah to return with no one willing to fill the vaccuum while it has been ‘on a break’.

Blogorrah was really the only goss/sleb orientated Irish blog, so the fact that it hasn’t been replaced isn’t that unusual.

I’ll tell u what Damien, I reckon u and I could definitely do a nu Blogorrah inbetween our other various pursuits!

but that, i suppose, is what I am getting at - the people/bloggers who have the drive and madness to do a similar site are already up to their eyes, while everyone else waits around for someone else to do it. Look at Damien and the Irish Blog Awards for instance. It seems most people prefer to moan about “where is blogorrah?” rather than go “hey, no blogorrah, lets fill the gap”

If I wasn’t working on about 4 other blog projects, I’d give it a bash, all I’d need are a source of lovely girl pics and to have a clue about who these folks are. Not the best on celebs.

I do definitely think there is a vacuum now and there is a market opportunity for anyone that wants to step in. Not much of a first push is needed.

but who really wants to be the person who makes a version of someone else’s blog to fill that hole? I’m sure in time somebody will do something similar but totally different

Blogorrah was consistently funny and the fact it was updated every hour or so made it extremely…it will be impossible to replicate it was so good,,,,but did it go anyway? going out on top, they say they are coming back but it’s so long now people will forget about it…

    Aren’t they too busy fighting
bankruptcy? They won’t be back. “Revamp” my eye! I think they are big fat liars! They should have come clean about the failed magazine. Someone could easily replace them though.

Good riddance to that horrible, sexist, petty, childish site. It seemed to exist mainly as a platform for the anonymous settling of old scores. I hope the worms enjoy chewing through its stinking carcass.
