You did buy tickets, didn’t you?

It would appear that the Electric Picnic is now sold-out.

    Nope,

The line-up has definitely disimproved from the last two years and it’s still priced at the ‘fleece the middle-classes’ level.

Guarantee that half the people that bought tickets have barely heard of even half a dozen acts.

dealga - see, this is what happens when you leave it too late to get your tickets. the show sells out and your only option is to be bitter and twisted about it.

To be fair, the original line-up looked a bit patchy. I’m sure plenty of people would have bought their tickets knowing that the weekend is more about the general “craic” that is the Electric Picnic experience. Personally, there are only three acts that I’d be pushed about seeing, but as someone who has gone before, that was enough for me to buy a ticket.
And then of course there’s always the hope that they’re going to pull a few more gems out of the bag with the “further announcements” that were promised, particularly given the number of quality acts touring Europe around the time of the festival, not to mention those already on Tripod’s books this side of the summer.
However, the latest add-on of acts is underwhelming to say the least. Erasure and The Manic Street Preachers? Someone doesn’t know what they’re doing.
Here’s hoping the Foggy Notions stage can provide redemption…

I fully agree with Kim. As long as I know that there’s no madowrivit head-the-balls and intemperant teenybobbers, the Picnic will be a regular summer sojourn.

No way Jim! It’s not going to be a patch on 2005.

It’s obvious that most people have bought their tickets for what they perceive the ‘experience’ to be.

I do not expect to be removed from my position of comfort by events!

dealga - “I do not expect to be removed from my position of comfort by events!” - well, considering you dont have a ticket, that’s stating the obvious!

“its not going to be a patch on 2005″. given that there were people at EP in 2005 who thought it wasnt a patch on 2004, such oneupmanship is just plain silly.

“most people have bought their tickets for what they perceive the ‘experience’ to be” - and what’s wrong with that?? its a festival, thats why people go. look at the millions (ok, thousands) who tried to get Glastonbury tickets before the line-up was confirmed. it is all about the experience (or the perceived experience, seeing as it is still a couple of months away)

Well given that such matters are subjective maybe this is a pointless statement but, so far, the line-up is surely the weakest EP has had (and it’s hard to see how it can be vastly improved). Though maybe there are thousands salivating over this year’s set…

That’s not oneupmanship - it would be if I was talking post-event but I’m only trying to evaluate the respective lists of acts I’ve paid to see and I’d be paying to see.

Assuming the acts confirmed don’t have enough loyal followers to fork out 220+ notes; either it’s sold out because people believe they’ll have a great time and the line-up is almost incidental or they’ve simply bought into the hype.

I chose not to but you’re right though, I suppose there is nothing wrong with buying tickets for a festival regardless of who’s playing.
