Overview


All of the record sources included in the Surname search, Ancestor search, Subscription and Placenames sections of Irish Ancestors are relationally connected, and organised around simple, easy-to-follow forms. For every townland, town or street throughout the island of Ireland all relevant genealogical record references are visible at the click of a button.

Version 2 of the site, launched in September 2000, greatly expands the coverage of surnames, providing details of the locations, origins and variants of almost 27000 names; adds the complete text of Lewis' Topographical Dictionary; includes a mid-nineteenth-century survey showing the number of householders of a particular surname in each parish of Ireland; shows civil parish maps for every area of the island; and adds significantly to all of the existing record categories listed below.

Irish Ancestors reproduces in a compact automated format the expertise of a professional genealogist applied to all the major Irish genealogical reference works to produce a detailed customised research outline.

In addition, the site includes the Internet's largest collection of Irish genealogy links, a selection of articles on Irish heritage and genealogy, and comprehensive descriptions of all the research sources.

LEWIS' TOPOGRAPHICAL DICTIONARY OF IRELAND (1837)

GRIFFITH'S VALUATION HOUSEHOLD SURVEY
