Over 250 years ago, an Irishman by the name of Benjamin Todd escaped an attempted capture with a reckless jump across a large gorge near Ballygawley in Co. Tyrone. Todd, a renegade outlaw, was on horseback at the time, and since then, the spot has been known locally as Todds Leap.
Just an hour from Belfast, that spot is now Northern Ireland’s biggest adventure park, set over 100 acres of heart-stopping adrenalin and rugged terrain.
Offering an almost unparalleled range of courses and days out, Todds Leap Activity Centre attracts thousands of thrill seekers annually, and, as well as individuals, it also caters for team building weekends and youth programs. One thing is for sure, you’ll sleep well at the end of your day, as there are a number of outdoor activities to take part in. Just be sure not to don the Armani, and leave the Jimmy Choo shoes at home, because you will be getting very muddy!
Those looking for more athletic pursuits can choose from a tall climbing wall, zipline, zorbing (essentially rolling down a hill in large plastic ball) or the terror-inducing drop zone (an unsuspended free fall drop from 30ft onto a stunt air bag).
Should you feel more at home with a weapon in your hand, there’s a huge paintball area on site, as well as clay pigeon shooting and archery. If you’re a speedster at heart, then there’s also plenty to keep the heart racing. Take a JCB for a spin, try hill rallying, off roading, or even take the chance to channel your inner Houdini with some blindfolded driving.
Sports team boot camps and fitness boot camps are also available for those who want to swap pleasure for pain, and the on-site restaurant, Benjamins, offers surprisingly good fresh local food. Just clean off some of the mud before you enter.
There are 5 accommodation options on site, and stag parties, hen parties and families are all welcome, as there’s plenty of room for everyone.
Possibly the best activity centre in Ireland, Todds Leap seems to offer tailor-made packages to anyone, and, with the weather getting a bit dreary and rainy, now is the perfect time to go and get down and dirty!
