Rathmullan Charters provide opportunities for deep sea angling, sightseeing and cruising on the beautiful Lough Swilly in County Donegal.

One of three glacial fjords in Ireland, Lough Swilly is a narrow and sheltered sea inlet lying between the western side of the Inishowen Peninsula and the Fanad Peninsula. It stretches for 20 miles from its mouth at Fanad Head all the way to Letterkenny.

Lough Swilly boasts over 30 species of sea fish, including pollock, coalfish, cod, haddock, whiting and thornback ray. Specimen-sized fish and conger can be caught in certain areas. The inlet is also famous for its 30-40lb tope that run the lough in May and blue shark is available at the end of August.

In addition to being known for its excellent fishing, Lough Swilly is famous for its wildlife watching. Rathmullen Charters provide bird and seal watching cruises and relaxing evening cruises. The inlet is rich in wildlife and is home to common and grey seals, migratory geese and swans, dolphins, porpoise and rare bird species. Day trips to Tory Island are also available. The offshore island is the home of several rare birds and also provides excellent views of the mainland.

Lough Swilly is also steeped in history. It was a British naval base during World War I and II and divers can explore the remains of several ships wrecked in the area during the wars. Rathmullan Charters also provide visits to Dunree (known for its military museum), Fanad Head lighthouse, Knockalla caves and the site of ‘The Flight of the Earls’ in Rathmullan.

Whether you are a fishing enthusiast, an avid birdwatcher or an adventurous diver, or you are simply looking for a relaxing scenic cruise, check out Rathmullan Charters and explore the beautiful Lough Swilly.
