The River Erriff, located in a wild and rugged valley in the beautiful west of Ireland, is one of the country's premier spate salmon rivers. Boasting lively streams and deep fish-holding pools, it offers excellent fly fishing for salmon and sea trout.

The Eriff Fishery is comprised of the River Erriff and the Tawnyard and Derrintin lakes and is run in conjunction with the Aasleagh Lodge. The beautifully refurbished 19th-century Victorian country house is set on 36 acres of mature woodlands in County Galway and boasts superb views of Killary Harbour and the Connemara mountains. Guests return year after year to enjoy the superb fishing that the Erriff Fishery offers.

Only a short walk from the Lodge are the famous Aasleagh Falls on the River Erriff, where leaping silver salmon can be seen making their way upstream.

The Erriff River boasts eight miles of angling water which are divided into nine beats and rotated among anglers daily. The river offers uncrowded fishing in quiet, scenic surroundings, with two rods on most beats and a maximum of three. Fly fishing is standard, but worming and spinning may be authorised by the fishery manager under certain circumstances. The entire river system is controlled by the Irish Fisheries Board.

Aasleagh Lodge supplies good beat maps, State licenses and excellent advice. The Lodge has nine spacious bedrooms and two additional four-star cottages available all year round. Guests can have a hearty breakfast each morning and are served a different local speciality each day of the week. The Lodge is known for its fresh local seafood and produce. Packed lunches are also available.

If you are not a fishing enthusiast, there are also several local riding stables, sandy beaches and walking paths to enjoy in this spectacular setting.
