Teach Cruachán Bed and Breakfast has been welcoming guests to Achill for twenty-five years. Owners Michael Anthony and Roisin Lavelle give personal attention to guests at all times, beginning with a welcoming cup of tea/coffee.
Experience authentic Irish hospitality and comfortable accommodation in a breathtakingly beautiful location. Teach Cruachán’s regular guests particularly value their hosts’ attention to detail, tasty home cooking and varied breakfast menu. Michael and Roisin are flexible and do their utmost to meet your every need. Free WiFi is accessible throughout the premises and the hot drinks station is available 24 hours a day.
The dining room overlooks the Atlantic, where you can spot bottle-nosed dolphins, basking sharks, sea birds and even humpback whales while you enjoy your breakfast, which will be made to order using quality local ingredients like Kellys of Newport award-winning sausages and puddings.
Evening dinner is available by arrangement for small groups that are staying in Teach Cruachan for three or more nights. There is a coffee shop and pub grub 200 metres from Teach Cruachán, in the most westerly pub in Europe. Packed lunches are available on request.
Your host Michael also operates a bicycle hire and passenger transport business from Teach Cruachán. Achill Bikes supplies mountain bikes, children’s trailers, tag-alongs, and car bike carriers. Michael will transport you and your bikes to wherever you want to begin your cycling adventure. Achill is a cycling hub with three looped cycle routes, and the new 42km Great Western Greenway is an off-road cycle and walkway developed mainly along the old Great Western Railway line between Westport and Achill Island.
Secure storage for sporting equipment and a drying room for clothing and walking boots make Teach Cruachán the ideal base for walkers and adventure seekers. Anglers have access to bait freezer and fridge and there is ample parking at the rear of the house for boats and trailers.
Teach Cruachán is located in the village of Dooagh, near Keem Bay and the highest sea cliffs in western Europe. It is only 200m in either direction to the local pubs: Lourdie’s is to the east, opposite the bus terminus, and in the other direction Gielty’s, the most westerly pub in Europe, serves great bar food. The local shop is only 250m away. The Wavecrest Bar is 500m to the east of Teach Cruachán. Traditional Irish music is often played in the local pubs. Many young people in Achill play instruments that they learned over the years in Scoil Acla, Ireland’s oldest summer school, which was founded in 1910.
The location is ideally suited to visitors who love outdoor activities like walking, cycling, swimming, trekking, horseriding, surfing, kite surfing, diving or fishing. You can decide to be really active or simply go for a leisurely stroll against a stunning natural backdrop of mountains and sea, lakes and bogland and glorious beaches.
There are two easy low-level waymarked walks near Teach Cruachán. One is the Dooagh National Looped Walk and the other is a linear walk to the famous Deserted Village of Slievemore. It is only a 1.5 hour hike to Croaghaun’s world-record sea cliffs from the B&B.
