ireland.com remains Ireland's leading news and information website

ireland.com remains the most popular news and information website in the country after recording more than 13 million page impressions in March, according to ABC-audited figures published today (Friday, May 13th).

The continued strong traffic from over 858,000 unique users keeps ireland.com ahead of other audited news sites in Ireland and proves that people are increasingly willing to pay for quality content online.

The website continues to attract large numbers of Irish and international subscribers and visitors. Unrivalled content includes The Irish Times newspaper; breaking news; sites devoted to business, technology, sports, and entertainment; and an archive dating back to 1996.

The site is constantly evolving and responding to consumer needs by adding new services. Subscription services include premium content, a web-based e-mail service with personal addresses @ireland.com, an Irish ancestors database and information service, as well as an online dating service.

The ABC independent audit undertakes the difficult task of ranking the popularity of websites through the collection and interpretation of the data. It creates transparency in the market and enables an independent assessment of a website's performance.

The deputy editor of ireland.com, Conor Pope, welcomed the ABC figures and said it was "very encouraging to see so many people using ireland.com as their source for online news and information."

The results were described as "very positive" by ireland.com's general manager, Una O'Hare. "In the Internet environment it can often be difficult to pin down exactly how we are performing," she said. "This audit leaves out the guessing game and establishes precise figures for all to see. We are delighted to see that ireland.com is still Ireland's leading news and information website."
